What is Earthing/ Grounding?
Earth’s surface possesses a limitless and continuously renewed supply of free or mobile electrons. When we are insulated from the Earth, that is, ungrounded, all these frequencies can confuse the electrons of your body and interfere with normal electron transfer activity going on in the body.
Scientific research suggests that this disconnect may be a major contributor to physiological dysfunction and unwellness. Reconnection with the Earth’s electrons has been found to promote intriguing physiological changes and subjective reports of well-being. Earthing (or grounding) refers to the discovery of benefits—including better sleep and reduced pain—from walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems that transfer the Earth’s electrons from the ground into the body.
How does it work?
Our bodies and our cells function with a system of electrons – both positive and negative. Due to the high amounts of electromagnetic waves (EMFs), WiFi towers and cell phone usage, removal from the Earth with shoes, cars, paved streets, etc., and contact with buildings filled with electrical charges we build up an excess of positive electrons.
Sounds good…but positive electrons are a form of free radicals that cause inflammation, aging and illness. This interferes with the normal electron transfer in our bodies.
The Earth, on the other hand, is electrified with DC (direct current) that comes from natural events like lightening striking the ground, or the sun shining on the ground – all sharing electrons with the Earth’s surface. When we touch the Earth’s surface with our feet our bodies gather these DC electrons and they begin to neutralize or balance our over abundance of positive electrons.
This energy exchange creates neutrals – remember Geometry lessons? – which create an equal balance and harmony in our bodies. This reduces the inflammations that have been created by our removal from touching the Earth’s surface. This interview with Dr Oschman explains it well:

Are there any risks?
According to studies the only two risks associated with earthing are for those who are taking medications for blood thinning or thyroid issues. Its not that earthing harms them, is that it begins to improve bot conditions quickly – so less medications are needed. Definitely earth, just do it with your doctors knowledge and monitoring of your medication levels to lower dosages.
How often and how long do we do it?
We follow the belief that every day we use and abuse our bodies therefore, every day we need some form of healing – internal and/or external.
- we walk barefooted whenever we can,
- we garden and touch the soil, water, rocks and plants,
- we go outside every day/night and
- we put our bare feet in the dirt for 10 – 30 minutes.

Yes, earthing works even on the cold or rainy days... and Yes, we bundle up from head-to-ankle and still get the positive effects with only our feet touching the Earth. When the weather is just too awful or we travel and can’t find a place to put our feet down – we use our earthing mats.
Earthing mats are thin mats with wires running throughout covered with a soft cloth. They are connected to the ground port in our electrical plates – completely safe because there is no electrical currents running through this section of the wiring only a connection to the copper ground wires in our homes.
We all sleep with earthing mats in our beds. We also use these under our feet when we work at our standing desks or under our backs when we read or watch tv, and we take them along when we travel anywhere to insure we can be grounded.

What results have we felt?
We are curious but very scientific-minded, so we had to try it to believe it. Absolutely (and surprisingly quickly) you feel less pain the next day after sticking your feet in the dirt! It’s often amazing that a headache will disappear, or a back ache will ease up, or even a high level of stress just dissolve away.
We have found, like many others, that there is definitely an improvement that you feel and a relaxation that comes over you when you let your body become one with the Earth.
