We know we must filter, limit or avoid all toxins from our daily lives. We hear and read about so many different, and confusing, toxins to watch out for.
What we really want to know was which ones are the worst for us?
Well, after much research we had a concrete answer – the chemical glyphosate found in Roundup was by far the most damaging and harmful to all of us.
- What is glyphosate?
- How is GMO related to glyphosate?
- What are some products that contain glyphosate?
- How does glyphosate work?
- Why should we worry?
- How does this affect our children?
- What can we do?
What is glyphosate?
Glyphosate is an herbicide invented by Monsanto. Its trade name is Roundup, yes, the weed killer we all use and use to love. It was brought to market in 1974. Monsanto then developed an ingenious marketing strategy. They genetically engineer seeds to grow food crops that could tolerate high doses of Roundup to help create larger crops that grew more quickly, produced more output and were easier to harvest. Good intentions gone bad?
How is GMO related to glyphosate?
Most people, like us, don’t really understand what GMO stands for and why it is being avoided. Here’s a summary from http://www.nongmoproject.org/learn-more/what-is-gmo:
GMOs (or “genetically modified organisms”) are organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering, or GE. This relatively new science creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.
So how are glyphosate and GMO foods related?
GMO, or genetically engineered foods, as well as conventional crops that are heavily sprayed with glyphosate (the active ingredient in Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup), have lower nutrient density than organic foods. They also contain high amounts of pesticides with documented harmful health effects, along with novel, highly allergenic, proteins.
These changes to the crops Epidemiological patterns show there’s an identical rise in over 30 human diseases correlated with our increased usage of glyphosate and the increased prevalence of genetically engineered proteins in our food. Here’s a very informative video of the findings by Dr. Huber, a leading GMO researcher,
GMO is not just in our food…it is in our ingredients and other products:
Corn Syrup, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Lactic Acid, Maltodextrins, Molasses, Monosodium Glutamate, Sucrose, Xanthan Gum, Vitamins, Yeast Products Etc…
Also in Cotton based products like Tampons, Cotton balls, cotton swabs, clothing, etc.…
Starting to get worried…we alI should be.
In 1996 GMO Soybeans were introduced. Later more and more crops were sprayed with Roundup/ GMO. Now they are in almost all of the store
Today the tested levels for glyphosate in crops are:
- Corn at 93%+
- Soy 93%+
- Cotton 93%+
- Sugar Beets 95%+ (55% of US Sugar production)
- Wheat sold in all countries – the seeds have been permanently altered
- additional crops with large % of GMO are
- canola, alfalfa, papaya, and squash
That’s only the top of the GMO product list. We also need to think of the GMO feed given to the animals that produce the meat, milk, eggs and produce we buy in the stores. What they eat – We eat. (Grass fed meats and organic produce have extremely low amounts of GMO)
The problem is that the seeds produced by these crops were also altered in the process. Now it is very difficult to find any of these crops that have not been altered and contaminated with glyphosate. The main trait of the GMO seeds is Herbicide and Insect Tolerance. Here is the data on how crops have been taken over by GMO Seeds:
Why does this matter? Even if we plant and grow our own produce, we will still be eating GMO crops. Our only garden strategy now is to buy organic seeds or purchase seeds from a certified seed coop. Not too late to save our foods, but it sure feels like we jumped on this bandwagon a bit too late. Why should we worry?
Ignorance…isn’t bliss in this case.
Roundup is an endocrine-disrupting, cancer-causing toxin at parts per trillion levels. March 2015 the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer unanimously determined that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans,” says Bill Freese, a science policy analyst with the Center for Food Safety, who wasn’t involved in the work. A carcinogen is a substance known to cause cancer.
Let’s look at charts of a few of the major diseases and how they correlate to Glyphosate in our food supply.
– The yellow bars show the increase in these diseases each year.
– The red line is the introduction of glyphosate into our food system.
– The blue is the introduction of GMO seeds and plants.

How does this affect our children?
Behavior changes, sleep disorders, intestinal disturbances, rashes, early onset diabetes, learning difficulties, hyperactivity…the list goes on and on.
A lead researcher in this area, Dr. Stephanie Seneff, became fanatic about making people aware of the correlation with Autism after she came across numerous studies showing a pinpoint direct correlation between glyphosate in our food system and the increases seen in Autism in children.
She and others are predicting that if this trend continues our children will have a 50% chance of being born with Autism by 2035. To see her in depth presentation click this link: PowerPoint Slides – People – MIT

This increased scope of usage…has led to an Explosion of the amount of Glyphosate being used….
Why is this all happening? MONEY.
Which has created control for the Monsanto Company and Affiliates. Monsanto has far reaching Influence. Farther and deeper than we even realized. See more about this below:
What Can We Do?
We all have to decide what risks we are willing to take. Monsanto and all of their influence has decided that Roundup and Glyphosate are safe to consume…but, the data is telling a much different story.
We have the control as consumers to buy what we want for our families. Remember the boycotts of old? They were effective because people got together for a cause and hit them where it hurts most – in their pocketbook!
If we don’t buy their produce and animal products and insist on organically raised and grown, then we can make a change. One that will take charge of our health and that of our children and families.
For Farmers…Glyphosate is an Economic Decision
…For Monsanto Glyphosate is a Profit Decision
… For us, Glyphosate is a Health and Wellness Decision.
Cauliflower Moment… we thought Monsanto and farmers had our best interest in mind. They don’t. Start questioning everything.
